Aquarius on Facebook

Aquarius is located in the "Fruit Loop" of downtown Dayton, at 135 East Second Street.  The club is highly visible and within walking distance from the shared parking lot for MJ's Cafe and Club Masque.  Aquarius was formerly Cell Block (with a prison/leather theme) and prior to that was El Diablo (a straight bar).  Aquarius features two levels.  The main level features a long bar, a decent sized dance floor, 2 projection screens and 2 plasmas, "party room" (available for rental) and a covered smoking patio.  Activities on the main level range from karaoke to drag shows to strippers.  The decor is shades of blue with stainless steel accents.  The building does show its age it places but overall, it's a clean and attractive building.  The second level has been completely remodeled and features a very large dancefloor (hardwood), a bar, a VIP area and an amazing sound system.  Level 2 features a Ladies Night on Thursdays, guest DJs and events on Fridays, and Industrial/Goth night on Saturdays.

Aquarius is open 7 days a week.  There is no cover charge from 8pm-10pm Sunday through Thursday and no cover for college students Sunday through Thursday.  Cover Sun-Thurs is $2 for patrons 21+ and $3 for those 19-20.  Friday and Saturday, cover charge is $5 for 21+ and $7 for 18-20.  Given the variety of things to do, cover is reasonable and in line with the other bars in the area.

The drink prices are the lowest of the area bars and are free-poured.  Bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly but can tend to be business oriented and lack that "favorite bartender" crowd but once you warm up to them, they don't have to ask you what you're drinking, because they know.  Drinks are ounce and a half of liquor.  Beer prices are reasonable, with a variety of bottles and Bud Light on tap.

The scene at Aquarius varies, but overall it is a good mix of people.  Different nights generate different sets of crowds, but the average age ranges from 21-35.  It's a great bar to go to if you don't want to "stand out" because there's such a great mix of people.  It's not a cruisy bar or the place to go if you just want to get laid, but it's a good bar to go to if you want to meet a guy to date.  It is the place to go, however, with a big group of friends and get drunk and have fun without spending a fortune.  And the weekend dj downstairs is always willing to play requests, which is a good thing.
